Plums and Cream Styled Bridal Shoot at Peel Mansion

Photographer: Photo Love

What Is A Styled Shoot?

“A styled shoot is simply a collaborative effort of multiple creatives who put their talents and resources together to create a stunning visual concept to be photographed.”* I often get inquiries from photographers, event coordinators, or event venues asking for a florist to collaborate on styled (photo)shoots.

Sometimes there is a vision for these shoots and other times I have total creative liberty to design whatever I want. Sometimes I’m offered compensation for materials/time and other times it’s a volunteer opportunity. I decide whether I want to participate based on my availability, the amount of material/time requested, and how I feel about the creative vision for the shoot. I enjoy these shoots because they are opportunities to flex my creative muscles as a florist, try new design styles or techniques, and work with other wedding vendors in the community.

This Styled Shoot

For this shoot, Kaity of Photo Love envisioned a modern, organic aesthetic that would pair with multiple styles of wedding gowns and more than one bridal model! Kaity was also the floral designer for this shoot (she's very talented!) and designed an organic style bouquet to complement the gorgeous Peel Mansion grounds and the array of shots planned.

What Did I Use?

In the bridal bouquet, White O'hara Garden Roses and creamy White Majolica spray roses bounced off the deep purple ranunculus and plum scabiosa to create a high contrast effect. Meanwhile, the sage green dollar eucalyptus, grey dusty miller, and the deep plum agonis brought even more depth to the design. I love how dynamic this piece turned out. Each time I look at these pictures I find a new bloom or detail I didn’t see before! The bouquet paired with 3 different gown styles—a v-neck lace A-line, a tiered ballgown, and a sleek strapless slip—because the organic style lends itself to almost any gown type.

The maids’ bouquets were a smaller version of the bridal bouquet, but mostly using plum colored blooms to pair back to their plum dresses. We created 3 different boutonnieres for our 3 different grooms. Plus, a gorgeous smilax draped arbor for the ceremony. Finally, a cream spray rose and fresh foliage accented cake pulled the whole shoot together. All of the elements of a fabulous, modern wedding!
